The idea for the “literary bridge” came to me as I was walking in Oxford Road in Manchester. I noticed that the road is very congested with people made up of a cosmopolitan mix of students from all over the world. The reason for this is the location’s proximity to two international universities (Manchester Metropolitan and Manchester University) and one of the biggest research hospitals in Europe. I also noticed that most people walking along are distracted with their mobile phones and tablets and that people are not interacting with each other at all. Continue reading “Manchester Oxford Road”

A counter cultural movement expresses the ethos and aspirations of a specific population during a well-defined era. For decades, libraries have been trying to serve the communities needs and provision of learning centres and knowledge hubs. Over time these have evolved and most recently threatened with closures as books lose their popularity in the early years of the twenty first century. However, recent interest in all things analogue (vinyl, tapes and now books) reflect a movement towards the handling of tangible designed objects and the values we place in them. In my project I imagine a future library, more local, connecting people and ideas and providing instant access to the books themselves.
These days, the technology revolution affects our lives in so many different ways, it makes our life style faster and easier in a way, but on the other hand relationships suffer from the distance and associated loneliness that has been created by technology. Continue reading “Bridge as a metaphor”
At the end of semester 2, I designed three posters to present the progress of my project.
My next task was to find a coworking place and to look more closely to the criteria of how do this kind of places operate. I decided to go to Soho in London, as it has been one of most entertainment and fashionable districts.
In semester 2 the Research module has a focus on Practice To support this emphasis a series of lectures have been arranged and presented by industry practitioners across a range of disciplines.
Nowadays, work is more flexible than ever, you can work from every where, and begin your own business as a freelancer without paying a rent.
